In early 1990, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) desired the creation of Real Estate Business by the AWT. The first land for the housing scheme was purchased at Adiala under the auspices of Director Industries. Later a separate Real Estate Division was formed to acquire and develop housing schemes, commercial projects and manage these as profitable concerns. A retired Brigadier was appointed as Director to head the Real Estate. By the year 1996 AWT was able to launch four housing schemes one each at Sangjani, Peshawar, and two at Lahore. Two commercial projects one each at Rawalpindi and Faisalabad were also launched.
